NOTES

  1. Ballasalley
  2. William was born 1653. His father was John McYllria & mother Cathrin Norris als Caveene. Parents died 1680 and 1688 respectively
  3. His father's family were most likely Thomas Mylrea &Issabel als ?? who had children Thomas, John, Martin, Issabel
  4. William married Cathrin Bridson on 7th June 1680 (just weeks before his father died), and they had two children 1681 (Isabel) & 1683 (John); both died of smallpox in 1685 within days of eachother
  5. Cathrin Inyreah als Bridson died 1688
  6. William is mentioned in the 1704 Composition Book "for part of the said croft called Coole Cam of 9d rent and for a house and garden 6d rent and for some few butts of land thereunto belonging of 6d rent of these rents amounting to 1s 4d there was only compounded for in 1666 1s 7d by Jo Mylrea Fine for the same was 20s 2d years determined so pays" (A Manx Notebook)
  7. 1704 Composition Book also shows Thomas Mylrea (William's uncle?) compounding Fildraw in 1666
  8. William inherited the family estate and his subsequent land dealings indicate that he held several fields and buildings; 1705 He sold land known as Garry Wainright and Cule Cam; 1714 he sold his house, gardens and a croft; 1718 he left land to his niece, his sister's daughter (no indication of who his sister was other than married to Harrison)
  9. The cousins mentioned in his will were the two sons of Thomas Mylrea and his wife Margaret Gellin (Fildraw)
  10. In 1705, a William McYLVEA was recorded as a herring boat master in 2,000 Manx Mariners (Wilkins). Wilkins also noted a Thomas MYLRAE as a herring boat owner during the period 1705-1755 but which Thomas is not immediately apparent as the temporal window is so wide and there are several Thomas's to choose from!
  11. William's death marked the end of this line of Malew Mylreas
  12. There is much about the Malew Mylreas of the 1600s and early 1700s that does not hang together so extreme caution must be exercised
  13. For further insights into the Malew Mylreas, please refer to Mylreas in Ballaquaile and Fildraw
